Curiosity, exposure to diverse ideas, and being well rounded is a fundamental aspect of an honors scholar experience. Students will be required to complete course credit outside their major. Classes count towards academic degree requirements.
Scholars will expand their understanding of the world by actively engaging in an immersion experience that aligns to their interest and professional goals. Scholars will be expected to spend about 50 hours within the experience.

To help scholars prepare for being active citizens and leaders in their respective professions, they must actively participate being a leader or mentor on campus. Scholars must complete at least 15 hours within leadership roles.
Potential Leadership Experiences
- Leadership position within a Design Team
- Hold an executive officer position of president within a registered student organization.
- Hold an executive officer position within the Greek Community (e.g. chapter president, serve on one of the governing council, or national organization).
- Serve within a formal mentor position on campus (Pro Leader, Student Success Coach, Resident Assistant, Kummer Vanguard Scholars Mentor, etc.)
Scholars have the opportunity to participate in honors sponsored events such as nights at the theater or other social activities.
Honors Living Learning Community is designed for students who are selected for Missouri S&T's Honors Academy. As part of the Honors community, you will live and develop connections with other students enrolled in the Honors program on campus. Students will live together in Residential Commons 2. Living in the honors community is not required for honors students but is a housing option exclusive to honors students.
Incoming students will receive a $1,000 renewable scholarship. Current S&T students joining the Honors Academy are ineligible for the scholarship.
Scholars who have successfully completed program requirements will be recognized at graduation as Honors Academy Fellows. Students will receive an medal, be listed in the commencement program, the achievement noted on their diploma and transcript.
Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy:
- Have a ACT score is 29 or higher/SAT is 1340 or above, &
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.75
Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy:
- Have a minimum college GPA of 3.5
- Completed one semester (12 credit hours) of college courses
Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy:
- They have a minimum GPA of 3.5
- A minimum of 24 S&T graded, college-level credits
Scholars must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Honors Academy:
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.75
- Review of written essays submitted with application to Missouri S&T
Eligible scholars who are accepted into Missouri S&T will receive an email invitation to apply for the Honors Academy beginning in October 2025.

If you are currently enrolled at Missouri S&T and are interested in the Honors Academy, please contact Honors Academy at msthonorsacademy@mst.edu.
Students interested in joining the Honors Living-Learning Community should complete the following steps by February 22, 2026, to receive priority consideration:
- Register for an A&R (Advising and Registration) Day.
- Pay the enrollment fee.
- Complete the housing application.
- Complete the Housing Interest Form (HIF).
The HIF will be sent to students starting November 2025, once the above three steps are completed. Additionally, students must apply to the Honors Academy by February 15, 2026.
If assigned to the Honors community, students will receive their housing assignments by March 2025.
Note: Spaces in the Honors Living-Learning Community are limited. Priority is based on the date students submit their Housing Information Form (HIF), which becomes available on December 1.
